Pulau Ketam
Pulau Ketam is home to two floating villages. One is called Kampung Pulau Ketam or Crab
Island Village, and the other Kampung Sungai Lima, or Five River Village.
To get to the island, both visitors and locals use the frequent ferry service. The journey takes about 30 minutes on a modern ferry, while older boats take about 40 minutes to reach the island. Locals frequenting the ferry service carry goods and produce from the mainland to Pulau Ketam.
An attractive feature of the island is its close proximity to public transport. The KTM Komuter station, which links to Kuala Lumpur’s main transport hub KL Sentral, is a mere five-minute walk from the jetty that provides the ferry service to Pulau Ketam.
On the island, houses, restaurants and other functioning commercial areas such as the fire station, post office and the police beat base are built on long wooden stilts, about a metre the above the water.
